MVIS — manufacturer information for independents

MVIS requires manufacturers to offer Australian independent repairers the same service and repair information they give affiliates. It is why “you have to go to the dealer for the procedure” is often wrong. It is not a licence to scrape an OEM parts catalogue.

  1. 1. You are probably a “repairer” under the scheme

Anyone in Australia whose business diagnoses, services, repairs, modifies or dismantles scheme vehicles. RTOs are in too.

  2. 2. Affiliates’ information must be offered to you

Procedures, software updates and service information the manufacturer already gives its dealer network. Usually through the OEM portal, at a fair price — not pasted into a SaaS marketing page.

  3. 3. It does not replace AllData on Tuesday

Speed still lives in Identifix / ProDemand / AllData. MVIS is the legal floor when a manufacturer tries to steer the job back to a dealer screen.

ACCC — about the scheme →

Theory

Same information, not a free database

The ACCC scheme exists because manufacturers could steer work to dealer networks by withholding procedures and software. Repairers who diagnose, service, repair, modify or dismantle scheme vehicles can access the information offered to affiliates, usually through the OEM portal, at a fair price. Honda has already been fined for falling short. The scheme does not make Identifix free, and it does not let a SaaS vendor host stolen wiring diagrams.

How to use it

Role
Owner / controller (P01 / P04) deciding which paid info product to keep
Shop-day step
REPAIR — when the independent shop is stuck behind a dealer-only screen
Do
Register with the OEM / scheme portal. Keep AllData or ProDemand for speed. Tell customers they may choose an independent.
Do not
Do not paste OEM content into a public tool. Do not promise “we have factory data built in.”

Put this next to the job card

Public tools stay free. The shop OS is the board, DVI, estimate, and GST invoice that use the same vehicle.
