Migration guide · MechanicDesk → Workshop Wrench
A step-by-step migration guide covering data export, customer and vehicle import, open job handling, settings configuration, and going live with confidence.
Before you start
Step by step
Work through these in order. Each step has a clear done-state so you know where you are.
MechanicDesk allows CSV exports of customers, vehicles, and service history. Export these before cancelling your subscription. Key exports: Customer list, Vehicle list (with customer links), Job history, Part/supplier list, Invoices (for tax records).
Workshop Wrench uses a standardised import schema. Our onboarding team provides a mapping template. Most MechanicDesk fields map directly — notes fields and custom tags may need light cleanup.
The Workshop Wrench importer ingests mapped CSVs. Customers are matched by email or phone; vehicles by VIN or rego. Duplicates are flagged before import commits — you review, not us.
Open repair orders do not import automatically (they have live state). For a clean cutover: invoice or close everything you can before go-live day, then re-open the handful that cannot wait in Workshop Wrench manually.
Set up your labour rates, tax settings (GST 10%, jurisdiction), SMS sender, Xero/MYOB connection, and email templates. This takes 2–4 hours with the setup checklist.
New jobs go into Workshop Wrench. MechanicDesk stays accessible read-only for the first week so advisors can look up history from either system. After 7 days, cancel MechanicDesk.
