Honest assessment
We believe in transparent comparisons. Here's where they genuinely have the edge today.
WorkshopMate has real SMS sending in production today. Workshop Wrench has the portal approval flow built but SMS delivery is mocked until Twilio is configured. If automated SMS follow-up is non-negotiable right now, check them first.
WorkshopMate has a track record with AU workshops that Workshop Wrench does not yet have. An existing customer reference list and proven support relationship matters — particularly for larger shops with complex operational needs.
Workshop Wrench is an early-stage product. Support coverage, onboarding resources, and response SLAs are not at the level of an established AU vendor with a trained support team. Factor this into any migration decision.
Where Workshop Wrench wins
Customers approve or decline individual job lines — not just the whole estimate. Deferred lines stay in the pipeline for future visits. This protects margin and creates an audit trail.
Pricing is on /pricing. Month-to-month subscriptions with no lock-in contracts. You should know what you pay before you commit.
IndexedDB mutation queue means the app works when the workshop internet drops. Mutations replay on reconnect. Installable as a PWA on any device.
The parts catalogue and reserve-on-approve flow is built. AU supplier punch-out is in progress — it will catch up to the established players.
